Village Defibrillator
We have a defibrillator (AED – automated external defibrillator) in the village that is available for anyone to use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It’s designed to be used in cardiac arrest situations when it will deliver a shock (if it deems one is necessary) to help to restart the patient’s heart into the normal rhythm.
It is kept in a locked box on the outside of St. Mary’s School, but the code is known by the ambulance service, who will give it out if you ever have need of it.
The defibrillator comes with everything that you need, including a friction powered torch for use in the dark, and a kit containing tuff-cut scissors, razor, etc.
We all hope that this will never need to be used but here is the procedure:
#1
Ring 999 to explain the problem and location. They can also give you the code to open the outer cabinet and gain access to the defibrillator.
#2
Someone needs to do manual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the patient whilst the second person goes to the box to collect the defibrillator.
#3
Follow the audio instructions from the defibrillator until the ambulance service or first responders arrive.
#4
Once used please return all the equipment to the cabinet, if an ambulance crew is in attendance they will probably do this for you.
Then, importantly, when you have time, please contact the Mill Bank Group to inform the unit has been used so they can order a new charge stick and set of pads.
